Lumbar needle Features Applications and Features
Applications
1. Structure: This needle consists of a stainless steel cannula and a transparent hub, facilitating observation of cerebrospinal fluid backflow.
2. Types: Needle tips feature diverse designs, commonly including Quincke (beveled) and pencil point styles. The latter aims to reduce the risk of post-procedure headaches.
3. Guide: The black component typically represents the stylet tip, inserted into the cannula during puncture to prevent tissue obstruction of the needle; it is removed upon reaching the target site.
4. Color-Coding: Needle hubs are color-coded (compliant with ISO 6009 standards) for rapid identification of gauge (thickness) by medical personnel.

Applications
Anesthesia: Used to inject local anesthetics into the subarachnoid or epidural spaces around the spinal cord for surgical analgesia (e.g., cesarean sections, hip replacements) or labor pain relief.
Diagnostic: Used during lumbar puncture to collect cerebrospinal fluid samples for diagnosing conditions like meningitis or multiple sclerosis.
Pain Management: Used to administer medications into spinal regions for treating chronic pain.
